Health is a frame of mind, a
matter of attitude. People are pre-occupied with
disease and not with optimum health factors that could bring about a complete
and perfect functioning of all the organs in their body. By making just a few changes, the
health benefits that you gain can be incredible. You are going to learn an
enjoyable way to improve your health. When you incorporate all the
ideas, you may observe many changes taking place within your body. These can range from weight loss,
to sleeping better, having more energy or just an overall general healing. Every body has their own unique
level of health, so the systemÕs effect can be equally unique for you. You may not even feel like the
same person anymore after you start to implement The Optimal Health System. You will learn to look at your
health as if it is a present that you are giving yourself everyday for the rest
of your life. So go a head and start to give
yourself the present of excellent health. Put It In Writing It gives you
power to put things in writing. There is a
remarkably enhanced likelihood of attaining your goals and following your
strategies when you write things down. Keep a journal as
you experience all the different sensations and changes that are going to be
taking place within you. You have a choice
of your recording method that you are going to use for your journal. It could be a
specially designated book that you could write in or you could do it on your
computer. You should use the
most simple and easiest method for your journal. Some people like to
write in their journals what they found to be most useful. It will be a
great help to you to read over the most important material daily. This will help you
to absorb and incorporate the information into your daily life. The Power Of A Vision The most powerful motivational technique that can help a person reach their goals is to set their vision. The vision will empower you to follow through when the going gets tough. A person with a vision can get a shift in their outlook and perspective of their situation. A vision opens up a personÕs creative genius to come up with ideas to get what they want. I would like to share an article written by Carie Broecker in Reach For Your soul: A Journey Into Healing, WriterÕs Showcase Books, 2002 Reaching For Health ÒI didnÕt know how I was Going to heal myself. I only knew I wanted to do so. I had read several stories over the years about people who used visualization to heal cancer. A young boy with leukemia had visualized the video game Pac Man eating his cancer cells. He went into remission. A man with a brain tumor visualized a large eraser erasing the tumor. The tumor was gone the next time he saw his doctor. Another man was told his liver was diseased and it was impossible for a liver to regenerate itself. He was hooked up to a machine for life. For lack of anything else to do with his time, while lying in bed, he visualized his liver being pink and healthy. His visualizations were methodical. He worked on one small section of his liver at a time. The tubes that hooked him to the machine were accidentally ripped out one day, and he was rushed to the hospital. An x-ray was taken to see how much damage had been done. When the doctor saw the x-ray, he demanded to know where the man had gotten his new liver. This is not your liver, the doctor insisted. This is a perfectly healthy liver.Ó Visualization is a powerful emotional force that can transcend limitations of medical science. With that in mind let us get started on helping you to set your vision of a healthier you. No experience is as deeply satisfying and rewarding as the
experience of improving your health. You have more choices about your health than you think you
do, and your health affects every aspect of your life. Your health affects your self-confidence, your self-image,
your family, your happiness, your career, your spiritual pursuits, your dreams,
your pleasures, your fun and your success. When you create a larger vision for your health, you
consciously make a decision to create a larger vision for your life, too. Creating Your Vision For Your Health! What would your vision of a healthy body look like for you? Imagine what your life would be like. Imagine being free
from pain; free from all the symptoms that have kept you from doing what you
want to do with your life. ItÕs a feeling you may not have had for a long time, but it
can be recaptured; itÕs a feeling you may never have had, but you can create it
for yourself. You can do it. Can you picture a wonderful, joyful vision of what you would
be like at your peak health? Imagine how it would feel to really be at your best? Can you imagine feeling really good? Can you see yourself in top form? Can you imagine what it would be like to have this
incredible health? Now picture the future, and create the vision of a healthy
you that would be wonderful, joyful and exciting. Allow yourself to picture your ideal health. Once you identify the vision, concentrate, and spend a
minute or two fully experiencing it. Hear the sounds in your head. Visualize clearly the things and details you notice. How good does this vision make you feel? Put The Vision In Writing Now write out your vision in detail. Putting your vision in
writing will give you power. Be as specific as you can be. Give your vision a name. As simple as this may seem, your vision is going to help you
move forward in your quest for excellent health. Use your vision to help create
a feeling of empowerment. Next, create a powerful and personally meaningful reminder
of your vision. This reminder might, for instance, be a large colorful sign put
in a place that you frequently see, or a message on your computerÕs
screensaver. Make your vision a place you can go to anytime. If a negative thought nags at you, go to your vision. Let
the wonderful, warm feelings of your vision wash away the negativity. Never spend more than 15 seconds in a Ònegative place,Ó or
you risk it becoming a part of you. Use the wonderful feelings from your vision
to replace any negative thoughts and feelings. So go ahead and
create your vision of a healthy you. Write it down, and
donÕt forget to give your vision a name. Here is a sample of a simple yet powerful vision that a client
shared with me. He calls it ÒRunning Like A DeerÓ ÒMy vision is a dream that I have of myself as a fine
looking young man with a sleek muscular body. In the dream I am running like a
deer with little or no effort. I am in perfect health and completely free from
pain and sickness. I have regenerated all the powerful athletic feelings of my
youth.Ó Your vision is going to help keep you grounded for many
years after you finished this book. Experience your vision and use your vision to feel
empowered. ÒTurning On The MotivationÓ You must be passionate about
improving your health. It's easy to focus on goals such
as weight loss or being more rested. But if there's no passion behind those
goals, no underlying motivation to achieve them, you are going to struggle and not know why. If you want to create breakthrough
results then we must focus on your personal reasons that you really want. Your reasons for great health must
become clear and important to you. When that clarity comes to you, the barriers
to success seem to disappear. Then all you have to do is work the system. There is an
important question you must answer before we begin working on your goals. A lack of
motivation and failure to follow the plan can result if you donÕt answer this
question. Answer it in
writing: WHY DO I WANT THE BEST HEALTH POSSIBLE? Your answers are
far more complex than ÒI want to,Ó "I need to," or "I
should". There are reasons behind your goals and dreams, usually dozens of
them. Once you realize
what your true reasons are, youÕll have far more success in following the
guidelines set out in this course and making your dreams and goals reality. Go ahead and list
every single reason. WHY DO I WANT THE BEST HEALTH POSSIBLE? Try to imagine all
the benefits you will enjoy after reaching your goal. The longer your
list is, the stronger your motivation will be. Read your reasons
when you rise every morning; ideally, hang your list on the wall. Constant reminders
of the benefits of each goal will keep you focused on the program and motivated
to complete every step. While I have the ideas, tools and
strategies to teach you to use to produce results. I can't do it for you. You
have to take the responsible for producing your own results. This is your life we are dealing
with here. You need to take full responsibility for your health. No one else
can do it for you. The best doctor in the world cannot help you the way you can
help yourself. Listed below are examples from clients on their reasons for wanting the best health possible. Do any of these reasons apply to you? What other personal reasons do you have that you could add to your own list? Feeling good with no aches and pains. DonÕt want to use medication. Want to enjoy life after stopping working. DonÕt want to end up sick in old age. Want to lose weight and keep it off so that I look good. Want to feel good. Want to play baseball with my grand son. Want to be able to travel after retirement. DonÕt want to go to a hospital. DonÕt want to be a burden on my children. Want to stay independent. Want to stay in my home. Want to live to be very old and extremely healthy. Want to continue to play hockey every week. Want to win my companyÕs healthy employee contest. Want to get off all my medication. Want to feel young. Want to keep my figure. Want to stay active. Want to live my life to the fullest capacity. Want to be able to take care of my family. Want to keep working as long as possible. Want to be strong. Want to be able to continue to have fun. Want to keep my present lifestyle. Want good health so that I can continue to take care of my parents and children, they depend on me so much. DonÕt want to end up sick in a home somewhere. DonÕt want to feel my age. DonÕt have health insurance. DonÕt have life insurance. These are all good examples of other peopleÕs reasons for great health. But, what I am really interested in is your personal reasons. This simple exercise is so powerful to help you move forward. Please donÕt skip it. It must be stressed
again that one of the most important tasks to be successful in implementing the
suggestions in this coaching book is to do all the written assignments. Your outcome will
also depend on your level of commitment. I have to share a
story with you about a person that bought a hard copy of my book right after it
was published. This person was overweight and on many prescriptions. He called me one
day and told me that he was going on an extensive business trip where he would
be gone a couple months. He told me that he
had made a commitment to himself to implement all the suggestions in the book
while he was on this trip. The day after he
came back he called me and told me that the weight just poured off him and that
he has never felt so good in his whole life. He wants to take
his health further and wants me to work with him as his coach. Are you ready to
make a commitment to yourself? Most people give up
too soon. Half the battle is won by showing up. Some people have a fear of
failure, and if you never complete something, you cannot fail. Again, it is of
vital importance that everything is written down and recorded. It is harder to
hide from yourself when you put it in writing. Writing it
down gives you the power to succeed! Goal Charting It is very useful
to chart your goals. This will help you observe your progress. This involves
listing and detailing all the personal health issues that you are tolerating. You must write
everything down that you feel is affecting your health. List each issue separately.
Make your list simple and uncomplicated, with each issue expressed in a
sentence or two. Make the list
as long as you want. If you are
fortunate enough to have no health problems, then you need to begin setting and
determining realistic attainable goals to take your health to the next level. Again, list all the
goals that you would like to achieve, list each goal separately and express
each goal in a sentence or two. Make the list as long as you want. Measuring Your Goals Now that you have listed
all your issues and goals, you must evaluate each issue or goal separately in
order to determine what your condition was before you started to implement the system. On a weekly basis
over the next few months, you must re-evaluate any gains you have made and
record them. The purpose of this
exercise is to provide you with a measuring stick to see in what areas the
system helps you to heal or increase overall health and well being. It is critically
important to know where you started, so you can accurately assess changes in
the weeks and months after you began implementing the system. Here are three examples of goal charting to demonstrate
how to chart your health issues and goals while you are incorporating The
Optimal Health System. Example One The personÕs health issue is being overweight. Their goal
is to lose 45 pounds of their extra weight and keep it off. The start date is
recorded along with the starting weight. Every week the person would record
their new weight. Example Two The personÕs health issue is that they are getting up to
urinate numerous times during the night. Because of this they do not feel
rested in the morning. Their goal is to sleep through the night without getting
up to urinate. The start date is recorded along with how many times they are
getting up every night. Every week the person would keep track of how many
times they got up to urinate at night. Example Three The personÕs goal is to walk faster. They want to increase
the distance that they can walk in 30 minutes. Their ultimate goal is to be
able to walk two miles in 30 minutes. The start date is recorded along with how
far they can currently walk now in 30 minutes. Every week the person would keep
track of their new distance. Now it is your turn to formulate and put into writing all
your health issues and goals. You have to be absolutely clear
about what you want achieve before you start using the system. This builds a
more solid foundation for bigger gains later on. Tracking and measuring your
progress can be one of the major keys to your success. If you don't measure the
progress from where you were to where you are, it's easy to lose motivation and
momentum. As a result of seeing your
movement you will stick with the system. A weekly checklist helps you document
your successes. By focusing on the progress youÕve
made, celebrating it, appreciating it and recognizing it, you will build
momentum, confidence, optimism and positive expectations. All of those things will help you
to produce even more results to do more and take on more. Seeing measurable results from your health issues and
goals will motivate you to stay on the system and take your health to a high
level of maintenance. If you havenÕt done so yet, can
you make your list of health issues and goals? The Secret To Excellent Health And Long
Life The secret to having excellent
health, really feeling good and maintaining your ideal weight is quite simple. All
you have to do is learn how to take care of your digestive system. ThatÕs all there is to it. Your
digestive system is an extremely important part of your body. Without it, you
couldn't get the nutrients you need to function properly and stay healthy. The
major function of the digestive system is to break down food and provide a
means by which the nutrients can be absorbed in the body. Nutrients that are
liberated by this process allow the body to grow, heal and function on a
day-to-day basis. Unfortunately
it is very common for this process to be disrupted. A wide range of factors can
influence how well the digestive system functions including dietary habits,
medication and
emotional wellness. An
estimated two-thirds of people suffer from gastrointestinal problems, which
often leads to malabsorption of nutrients. What
makes this so important is that much of your health is riding on your bodyÕs
ability to absorb nutrients. One
cause of obesity is that the body does not get the nutrients it needs, even
though a large quantity of food is consumed. Absorption
of nutrients is a process that takes place at the atomic scale or size.
Digestion is the processes of breaking food down from the human scale where we
measure in inches to the atomic scale were things are measured in angstroms. All the
nutrients that your body needs are atoms and molecules and they exist as
particles of a size measured at an atomic scale. This
means the food we eat must be broken down to literally millions of very tiny
pieces. This process takes a great deal of work. Because the process is
intricate and involves many delicate processes it needs to be treated with
respect. The remainder of this course
deals with teaching you how to take care of your digestive system and give
yourself the respect that you deserve. Taking care of your digestive
system can change your entire life around. Here is a quote from Saul A. who
purchased a copy of THE OPTIMAL HEALTH SYSTEM when it
was being sold as a hardcopy. ÒTHE OPTIMAL HEALTH SYSTEM reaches
far beyond the scope of traditional dieting and health plans. In a coulter of indulgement, that
bigger is better, the THE OPTIMAL HEALTH SYSTEMÕS sound advice, teaches one how
to control their eating habits, and eventually their life. I have found that it has made me a
better and more appreciative person, and in doing so has made me care for
others and myself. I have noticed an increased energy
level by getting rid of the toxins in my body in a non-painful way without
drugs. Everyone will benefit in some way from this program.Ó Saul A. The remainder this book is to
teach you how to do that and much more. Whenever your body does any type
of action, it expends energy. Your body sends this energy to where it is
needed. When you are ill or even just not
feeling well, you should not exert yourself physically; your body needs all its
energy to heal itself. As you start to take care of your
digestive system you will create and tap into energy that you never knew you
possessed. Once unleashed, your body can send
all this newfound energy to areas of the body overwhelmed and in poor condition.
The result. Energy to heal and energize
you! The body has a marvelous built-in
repair system. As soon as you start to
incorporate all the ideas in the rest of this book, you will start to provide
your body with enough spare energy to experience a general healing with respect
to your particular situation and level of health. Taking care of your digestive
system is also an important way to bolster your immune system. A person with a healthy immune
system rarely gets sick and the body functions at an optimal level. The secret is to make sure that
your food does not stay in your bloodstream too long. This can be a great
danger to the body. Our goal by the end of this
course is that your digestive system is working at its best to expel toxicities
from your body. The body caring for itself is a
theme throughout the entire OPTIMAL HEALTH SYSTEM process. The
Biggest Change That Will Help You Lose Weight! Weight
loss is the eternal quest for so many of us. ItÕs no
wonder weÕre always trying to lose weight with weight loss being so confusing. First
they tell us not to eat fat. Then they tell us not to eat carbohydrates. Then
they tell us to eat fats but only the right kind. Then they tell us to eat
carbohydrates but only the brown kindÉ. WhatÕs
a person to do? ItÕs
safe to say that the diet rules are going to keep changing. After
all, every time the rules change, they can sell another batch of diet books. What
about all the weight loss products being sold today? We have
to look for a constant in the dieting madness that does not change. ItÕs
really quite simple. In fact itÕs simplicity at its finest. The secret is
take care of your digestive system and it will take care of you. The
majority of peopleÕs obesity and health problems are from not taking care of
their digestive systems properly. Ensuring
that the digestive system is functioning properly is a necessary first step to
reaping the benefits of weight loss, maintaining your weight and awesome
health. You are
going to find out exactly what is needed for a healthy digestive system to work
properly. You
will be given all the tools that you will need to have this delicate process
run efficiently. You
will not have to spend any money on weight loss products. The
digestive system functioning at its optimal level is one of the biggest steps
towards improving your overall health and losing excess weight. You
will now be presented with a summary on how the digestive system works. The Human Digestive System The
digestive system is one of the greatest parts of the human body. It
mashes and mixes up food, it makes chemicals to break the food down so your
body can use the nutrients, it filters out dangerous substances, and it even
lets your body get rid of leftover waste. So there
you are, sitting at lunch, enjoying an anchovy covered pizza and a few orange
wedges. When youÕve finished, you take a last drink of milk and head back to
work. In a
few minutes you're thinking about your new work project. You've completely
forgotten about the pizza that you just ate. However, it's still in your
stomach. So How
Does Your Digestive System Work? Your
digestive system started working even before you took the first bite of your
pizza. The digestive system will be busy at work on your chewed-up lunch for
the next few hours - or sometimes days - depending upon what you've eaten. This
process, called digestion, allows your body to get the nutrients and energy it
needs from the food you eat. So let's find out what's happening to that pizza, orange,
and milk. The
Mouth Starts Everything Moving Even
before you eat, when you smell a tasty food, see it, or think about it,
digestion begins. Saliva begins to form in your mouth. When
you do eat, the saliva breaks down the chemicals in the food a bit, which helps
make the food become mushy and easy to swallow. Your tongue helps out, pushing
the food around while you chew with your teeth. When
you're ready to swallow, the tongue pushes a tiny bit of mashed-up food called
a bolus toward the back of your throat and into the opening of your esophagus,
the second part of the digestive tract. The
esophagus is like a stretchy pipe that's about 10 inches long. It moves food
from the back of your throat to your stomach. But
also at the back of your throat is your windpipe, which allows air to come in
and out of your body. When you swallow a small ball of mashed-up food or
liquids, a special flap called the epiglottis flops down over the opening of
your windpipe to make sure the food enters the esophagus and not the windpipe. If
you've ever drunk something too fast, started to cough, and heard someone say
that your drink "went down the wrong way," the person meant that it
went down your windpipe by mistake. This happens when the epiglottis doesn't
have enough time to flop down, and you cough involuntarily (without thinking
about it) to clear your windpipe. Once
food has entered the esophagus, it doesn't just drop right into your stomach.
Instead, muscles in the walls of the esophagus move in a wavy way to slowly
squeeze the food through the esophagus. This takes about 2 or 3 seconds. In
The Stomach Your
stomach is attached to the end of the esophagus. It's a stretchy sack shaped
like the letter J. It has three important jobs: á
To
store the food you've eaten. á
To
break down the food into a liquid type of mixture. á
To
slowly empty that liquid type of mixture into the small intestine. The
stomach is like a mixer, churning and mashing together all the small balls of
food that came down the esophagus into smaller and smaller pieces. It does
this with help from the strong muscles in the walls of the stomach and gastric
juices that also come from the stomach's walls. In
addition to breaking down food, gastric juices also help kill bacteria that
might be in the eaten food. The
Small Intestine The
small intestine is a long tube that's about 1 1/2 inches to 2 inches around,
and it's packed inside you beneath your stomach. If you stretched out an
adult's small intestine, it would be about 22 feet long. The small
intestine breaks down the food mixture even more so your body can absorb all
the vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. Your
pizza is full of proteins and fat. The small intestine can help extract them
with a little help from three friends; the pancreas, liver, and gallbladder. Those
organs send different juices to the first part of the small intestine. These
juices help to digest food and allow the body to absorb nutrients. The
pancreas makes juices that help the body digest fats and protein. A juice from
the liver called bile helps to absorb fats into the bloodstream. And the
gallbladder serves as a warehouse for bile, storing it until the body needs it. Your
food may spend as long as 4 hours in the small intestine and will become a very
thin, watery mixture. It is time well spent because, at the end of the journey,
the nutrients from your pizza, orange, and milk can pass from the intestine
into the blood. Once in
the blood, your body is closer to benefiting from the complex carbohydrates in
the pizza crust, the vitamin C in your orange, the protein in the anchovies,
and the calcium in your milk. Next
stop for these nutrients is the liver. The leftover waste or remnants of the
food that your body can't use goes on to the large intestine. The
Liver The
nutrient-rich blood comes directly to the liver for processing. The liver
filters out harmful substances or wastes, turning some of the waste into more
bile. The
liver even helps figure out how many nutrients will go to the rest of the body,
and how many will stay behind in storage. For example, the liver stores certain
vitamins and a type of sugar your body uses for energy. The
Large Intestine At 3 or
4 inches around the large intestine is fatter than the small intestine and it's
almost the last stop on the digestive tract. Like the small intestine, it is
packed into the body, and would measure 5 feet long if you spread it out. The
large intestine has a tiny tube with a closed end coming off it called the
appendix. It's part of the digestive tract and we are still trying to figure
out exactly what the appendix does. Sometimes it can cause big problems if it
gets infected and needs to be removed. Like we
mentioned, after most of the nutrients are removed from the food mixture, there
is waste left over - stuff your body can't use. This stuff needs to be passed
out of the body. Before
it goes, it passes through the part of the large intestine called the colon,
which is where the body gets its last chance to absorb the water and some
minerals into the blood. As the
water leaves the waste product, what's left gets harder and harder as it keeps
moving along, until it becomes a stool and is ready to become a bowel movement. The
large intestine pushes the stool into the rectum, the very last stop on the
digestive tract. The solid waste stays here until you are ready to use the
washroom. When
you use the washroom, you are getting rid of this solid waste by pushing it
through the anus. I hope
that this has given you a better understanding of how your digestive system
works. Now you are ready
to start learn some of the ideas that begins
the process of taking care of your digestive system. Sorry, but that concludes the book
preview. The remainder of the book will present to you specific
action steps that you can implement to take care of your digestive system. After you start to implement The Optimal Health System, you
